Carnie & Wendy Wilson Hey Santa

Carnie and Wendy Wilson collaborated to create the album Hey Santa!, which was released as a holiday record. It was first made accessible to the general public in October 1993, and on December 25, 1993, it made its debut on the Billboard Top Pop Albums chart. With this, their first recording, the Wilson sisters made their solo debut following the breakup of the band Wilson Phillips.

This album did poorly in the marketplace; it peaked at #116 on the Billboard Top Pop Albums list. On the Billboard Top Holiday Albums chart, it did, however, peak at position #25. In addition to the song that serves as the album’s original title, “Hello Santa!,” which was composed by the Wilson sisters and Jack Kugel, the album also contains eleven other Christmas songs that are regarded as standards.

In the song’s lyrics, a man surprises his loved one by showing up at their home on Christmas after she had wished for Santa to “bring her baby home tonight.” SBK Records gave out one single to radio stations and retail stores. Under the catalog number SBK S7-17648-A, the song “Hey, Santa!” was made available as a cassette single and on a green vinyl 45 rpm record. It was accompanied by a cover of “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas” and eventually peaked at position #22 on the Billboard Top Adult Contemporary chart.

The song “Bubbling Beneath the Hot 100,” which is also known as position #101 on the Hot 100 in Billboard reference books, also peaked at the top of the Billboard chart. Despite the single’s commercial failure, it is still frequently played on the radio around the Christmas and holiday seasons. Carl Wilson, a founding member of the Beach Boys and also Carnie and Wendy Wilson’s uncle, is prominently featured on the backup vocal.

This album contains the 1976 recording of “I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus” by the Wilson family. It includes backing vocals from the Beach Boys in addition to a wide range of Beach Boys band members’ kids, including Matthew and Adam Jardine, Hailey and Christian Love, Jonah and Justyn Wilson, and others. The Wilsons are the ones who produced this recording.

The song Hey Santa! was later released by EMI/Capitol Special Markets in 1999 on CD and cassette with the same lyrics-free two-page booklet and the same music. At the time, the album was assigned the catalog number 98289. You can still purchase this edition of Hello Santa as of November 2007!

According to SoundScan, the song “Hello Santa!” had already sold 138,747 copies in the United States as of June 27, 2012.

Ten years later, new Christmas albums started to appear. Christmas with Carnie, Carnie Wilson’s first solo Christmas album, was released in 2007. It included new versions of several of the previously released songs. In the years that followed, Wilson Phillips, who had come back together to work in the music business, created an album titled Christmas in Harmony. Several songs from previous albums have new iterations on this one.
