Rocket City became the new home for her and her family when she was six years old and had just made the transfer.
Her brother, two sisters, and a nephew also called the place home while she was growing up, and she has fond memories of those years. When Valorie first started her career in the broadcasting field, her first job was working for a radio station in Huntsville as a reporter and anchor for the station. After gaining some experience at WEUP-FM, she moved on to WAHR-FM, where she was employed for another two years. After acquiring experience in radio, she eventually went in for an interview with WHNT-TV in Huntsville for a job in the television news department. Because of this, she was able to secure a job.
