As a General Assignment Reporter, Staeger joined the 9NEWS staff in March 2014. He relocated to Colorado from Springfield, where he spent four years leading WCIA-Capitol TV’s Bureau. He covered the state’s decision to eliminate the death penalty, the state’s impending budget issues, and the legalization of civil unions and eventually same-sex marriage during his time in Springfield.
He was an assistant producer at Detroit’s WDIV-TV before moving to Illinois. He covered the Rod Blagojevich retrial in Illinois, where he is currently serving a 14-year term for corruption, and then followed the former governor to FCI Englewood. In order to cover the 2012 Republican and Democratic National Conventions, he also traveled to Charlotte, North Carolina, and Tampa, Florida. He was nominated for a regional Emmy for his investigative reporting.
