New Anchor Teams at News Channel 3 in Memphis – Tribune Media

June 26, 2017 – News WREG One fresh face is welcomed by Channel 3, Memphis’ top television station, and an established face now has anchor duties. Veteran journalist Greg Hurst joins the prime-time news roster, and Daybreak anchor Todd Demers, who has been doing so on an interim basis since December, gets appointed permanently.

Beginning in July, Greg Hurst will replace Stephanie Scurlock on the 5, 6, and 10 PM news. Greg was an anchor at WABC in New York for ten years before joining WREG, and most recently served as the main anchor at KHOU, the CBS station in Houston, Texas. Greg’s broadcasting career began in Little Rock, but he is a native of Memphis.

Hurst declared, “In many respects, this is a homecoming. “My wife was raised and educated in this area. The Quince Road Church of Christ in Memphis is where we exchanged vows. My granddaughter, our oldest daughter, and her husband now reside in this area. Our oldest daughter attended the University of Memphis. So, Memphis has always seemed like home to me. I’m excited to carry on News Channel 3’s illustrious tradition of serving as the eyes and ears of people who lack representation as well as the voice of the voiceless.

Greg has won awards for his work both on and off the television set, and he has led viewers on tours of the streets of Baghdad, Iraq; the Kremlin in Moscow; and the battlefields of Vietnam. He brings his proven storytelling skills to the anchor chair in Memphis because he has covered some of the greatest stories in recent memory.

Since December, Todd has been assisting Markova Reed on the anchor desk from 4:30 to 7 AM on weekdays. He will keep doing double duty by also working at the weather desk. After joining News Channel 3 in 1986, he has worked as a morning meteorologist in Memphis for the longest. Since WREG began airing Daybreak, the top morning newscast in Memphis, Todd has assisted viewers in making plans for the day.

I’ve always enjoyed doing both, and over the years, I’ve had the opportunity to step in multiple times, Demers remarked. “However, I didn’t think of working two jobs full-time until recently. This enables me to provide assistance to locals of Memphis in a variety of ways.

We are excited to announce these improvements, said Ron Walter, president, and general manager. Greg is warmly welcomed into the WREG family as well as the Memphis neighborhood. His wide background as a journalist impressed us, but we also thought his dedication to civic engagement was impressive. As we have come to expect from Todd Demers, who is equally skilled at reporting news stories as he is at predicting and explaining the weather, he will completely embrace the Memphis narrative.

News Director Bruce Moore continued, “Change may be beneficial. “Greg is a fantastic newscaster, but more significantly, his record of volunteer work demonstrates how deeply he cares. He and Todd both have experience, are likable and are dedicated to improving Memphis.

On July 3rd at 5, 6, and 10 PM, Greg Hurst will be a part of the team with Stephanie Scurlock, meteorologists Tim Simpson and Jim Jaggers, and sports anchor Glenn Carver. Todd immediately resumes his combined responsibilities as an anchor and a meteorologist. Every weekday at 4:30 AM, you may see Markova Reed, Todd Demers, and traffic reporter Corie Ventura.
