Allison was born and raised in the Pittsburgh area, and she received her bachelor’s degree in Earth Science with a specialty in Broadcast Meteorology from California University of Pennsylvania in 2006. Her primary area of study was broadcast meteorology. She has been recognized by the Associated Press on multiple occasions for her outstanding coverage of the weather, including in 2013 for her reporting on Hurricane Sandy on the Eastern Shore. Allison also worked as the on-call meteorologist for Extreme Home Makeover: Home Edition while the show was filmed in her area. She also participated in an episode in which Hurricane Irene impacted the building of a house in Lewes, Delaware.
