On July 23, 2004, as Baderinwa was compiling a report on a place in Hackensack, New Jersey about local floods, she was struck by a motorist who then fled the scene without stopping. She endured many procedures. After several months of recuperation and undergoing physical therapy, she eventually went back to work at Eyewitness News on December 13, 2004. Before she was elevated to co-host the 5 o’clock news with Diana Williams, she was the anchor of the noon programs. On October 27, 2006, Baderinwa was a guest co-host on The View. This was her first appearance on the show.

Baderinwa replaced Liz Cho as the co-anchor of the 11 o’clock news alongside Bill Ritter. Cho had previously held that position but moved on to become the anchor of the new WABC 4 o’clock broadcast.
