Richardson has had a number of positions during her time at WCVB, including that of founding co-anchor of the weekend EyeOpener. She later moved from the anchor desk to the “5 Investigates” crew for several years before becoming a general assignment reporter and fill-in anchor for WCVB’s various newscasts due to her extensive network of sources and propensity for breaking news stories.
Richardson’s professional journey has led her to every #1 network affiliate. Prior to joining WCVB, she held positions at the NBC affiliates in Seattle, WA’s KING-TV, Providence, RI’s WJAR-TV, and Manchester, NH’s WMUR-TV.
Richardson created a three-part series titled Capitalism vs. Communism while working as a contributing correspondent for “The Today Show” in 1994 while on assignment in Vietnam’s Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City. The articles looked at how trade between Vietnam, the Pacific Northwest, and Vancouver, British Columbia, affected those regions.
Rhondella participated in “Tuesday Child” segments while working at WJAR-TV from 1992 to 1994. She also made an appearance on the soap opera “Another World” in a dancing sequence for a behind-the-scenes look at the life of a soap star.
Richardson received the Leo Beranek Fellowship from WCVB in 1990, which allowed her to work as a freelance news assistant at NewsCenter 5. Richardson began her career in broadcasting as an intern for CityLine, WCVB’s urban news program, in 1986.

Richardson has emceed the tribute day in an effort to constantly serve the community both on and off camera. Bud Collins, a tennis commentator, was remembered at the Sportsmen’s Tennis Club before he passed away. She has presided over Boston’s annual “Duckling Day” Mother’s Day celebrations and parade for eight years running. These events are organized by the Friends of the Public Garden and the Boston Parks & Recreation Department.
Richardson is on the board of UNICEF and is a fervent supporter of her neighborhood elementary, middle, and high schools as well as Catholic Charities, The Home For Little Wanderers, and The Ellie Fund. Richardson likes how her employment continuously introduces her to new individuals and refers to herself as a mentor in motion.
