He left Salt Lake City, where he had previously worked at KTVX, and moved to Cleveland. Mark worked for more than six years as a general assignment reporter and the weekday morning news anchor at WPRI in Providence, Rhode Island, before moving to Utah.

As an intern at WKYC in Cleveland in 1995, Zinni had his first appearance on television. He later served as an intern at NBC’s TODAY Show in New York. In 1997, Zinni started working as a reporter and producer for WICU in Erie, Pennsylvania. He later moved on to work as an anchor and reporter for WTOV in Steubenville, Ohio.

Zinni has traveled extensively as a journalist. He reported from New York, Pittsburgh, and Washington, DC after the 9/11 terrorist attacks. When The Station Nightclub in West Warwick, Rhode Island, caught fire in February 2003, Zinni , who was still new to New England, covered the event live for more than 12 hours on local and network television. A fire started during a concert, killing 100 people while injuring many more.

The Dalai Lama, a few presidential candidates, several national officials, and multiple journeys to Hollywood for entertainment news have all been subjects of his interviews. In 2004 and 2006, Zinni covered the American Idol finales from Los Angeles, becoming the first local reporter to do a live interview with Simon Cowell. He went to Los Angeles as well to show viewers “behind the scenes” footage from the production of several CBS and FOX television programs.
