Kristen Van Dyke is an American journalist from the United States and she works as a  Chief Meteorologist at Tribune Media since joining the team in May 2017 in Greater Salt Lake City Area.

Prior to that, she operated as the chief meteorologist on Fox 13. Since she was a teenager she has been captivated by Utah’s mountains and terrain. It is where she 1st learned to ski and snowboard and a place she has come back to visit and vacation.

Since she was young, she has been engrossed by the weather when Hurricane Hugo blew through her home town which devastated much of the area and made her realize how incredible, yet scary severe weather can be.

She first went to college in 2000 at a south Carolina-based school, and graduated from the College of Charleston founded in 1770, with a bachelor’s degree in communication and subsequently earned a certificate in meteorology from Mississippi State University, one of the largest universities in the South. She is currently a member of the American Meteorological Society and earned her Seal of Approval in 2008.

Kristen began forecasting at WPDE, a local news station in her home state of South Carolina. She covered and reported numerous tropical storms and even Hurricane Ernesto in South Carolina and Florida at that time.

The brilliant meteorologist was also one of the people that forecasted the deadly tornado outbreak which destroyed the south in March 2008. She worked at this station as a weekend meteorologist until September 2010 which was about a year after she finished in Mississippi.

Kristen saw the need to venture out of her comfort zone. She got an opportunity and soon relocated to Albuquerque, New Mexico. Not the type to be daunted by any challenge, she was to explore another aspect of her career. She became the host of the program “New Mexico Style” which covered various local features and interesting lifestyle news which she presented for KASA Fox 2 and KRQE News 13.

The program was a starting point and stepping stone for her as Kristen was later promoted to being the morning and noon meteorologist for the two stations. She maintained this position for 3 years until April 2014.

Soon after she left the station, she moves again after getting an offer to become the chief meteorologist at KOIN 6 an affiliate of CBS in Portland. She worked in this capacity for three years before leaving the network in May 2017. She gave family and personal reasons as her cause for leaving.

Kristen joined the Fox 13 KSTU team as a chief meteorologist in 2017, a position she maintains till today. She says about her move to Utah that she has been enchanted by the terrains and mountains since she was a teenager. Kristen learned how to snowboard and ski in Utah and has spent lots of vacations there.
