Katie Nielsen is a reporter and anchor who has won numerous awards. She currently works for CBS News Bay Area, KPIX 5, where she serves in the same capacity. She started working for this station during the summer of 2017, and she has been here ever since.
Katie pursued a degree in journalism at the University of Missouri at Columbia, from which she ultimately received her diploma. Additionally, she graduated from the Loyola University Chicago School of Law with a Master of Jurisprudence degree.

Katie has spent the better part of a decade telling the tales of other people. She started working at KPIX in the summer of 2017, and only a few short months later, she was reporting on the devastating wildfires in Wine Country.
Katie was one of the first reporters to arrive in Santa Rosa when the fires started, and she provided continuous reports from the front lines of the blaze. Her coverage of courageous acts and heartbreaking events earned her two prestigious national journalism awards: the National Headliner Award for Breaking News from the Society of Professional Journalists and the National Sigma Delta Chi Award for Breaking News from the Society of Professional Journalists.
In 2018, Katie reported live from nearly a dozen significant wildfires across Northern California, including the Camp Fire in Paradise and the Carr Fire in Redding. Her coverage of the Carr Fire, which garnered her multiple awards, earned her the National Headliner Award for Breaking News for the second time in as many years, a feat that has never been accomplished before.
Before moving back to the West Coast, Katie was employed at television stations in the states of Arkansas, New York, Missouri, and Nevada. Her most recent job was as a reporter for Comcast Sports Bay Area, where she primarily covered baseball and horse racing. Katie enjoys going for runs with her dog Chloe, skiing, and golfing in her spare time when she’s not chasing the news. In addition to that, she is an accomplished show-jumping equestrian with her horse named Moose.
