Chang started working as a desk assistant for ABC in 1984. In 1991, she also started working for World News Tonight as a producer and off-air reporter, creating live event coverage and articles for its “American Agenda” feature. While headquartered in Dhahran, Saudi Arabia, during the 1991 Gulf War and the 1992 US presidential election, Chang had off-air reporting tasks.
