In 1995, John’s career took an unexpected turn when he was tricked into accepting a commission to develop a weekly news magazine show for which he would be the editor and the only photographer. This project changed the trajectory of John’s professional life. In defiance of all expectations, the show was a smashing success, and John went on to take home a local Emmy Award, an Edward R. Murrow Award, a national Iris Award for Television Programming, and the title of Associated Press Editor of the Year for two years in a row.
Since John began his career as a “Multi-Media Journalist,” or MMJ, in 2011, this designation has meant that he is responsible for the production, writing, shooting, and editing of his own articles, all while working out of a van.
