Joe started working for NBC News as a correspondent on the West Coast in October of 2013. He has covered some of the most important stories in the country, including the catastrophic mudslide that occurred in Oso, the deadly flooding that occurred in Colorado, the destructive wildfires that occurred near San Diego, and the shooting rampage that occurred in Isla Vista.

Even after 22 years had passed since he had initially come out, he continued to inform others. Recently, Joe wrote an article about Nathan Ivie, who is a commissioner for Utah County. He is a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, is a Republican, and represents one of the most conservative regions in his state. He claims that the whole time he was married to a woman and had two children, he was only living a lie. He came out earlier in 2019 when he was 40 years old.
