He is also a radio host on the breakfast show alongside Nick Odhiambo at HOT 96 Radio. Formerly the Africa correspondent for CNN and CNN International from 2001 to 2007, he later became the chief reporter for TV channel K24 from 2007 until the end of the year 2012. Koinange was born in Kenya and worked for KTN, which was Kenya’s first independently owned and operated television channel (KenyaTelevision Network). Between the years 1987 and 1989, he was a student at Kingsborough Community College in Brooklyn, New York, and he earned an associate degree there. In addition, he attended New York University and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in broadcast journalism there.

Koinange covered Africa for Reuters Television from 1995 until 2001, when he began working for CNN. Prior to that, he covered Africa for Reuters Television and served as their chief producer from 1999 until 2001. In 1994, he also worked for NBC News as a producer, and earlier in his career, from 1991 to 1992, he began his journalism career by working for ABC News. Koinange was engaged as a news anchor by a new Kenyan television channel, K24, which began doing test runs in Nairobi in December 2007, seven months after she left her position as a news presenter at CNN.

Koinange’s departure from CNN was confirmed on May 29, 2007, when the news outlet made the announcement. It appeared like he had been involved in a sexual scandal, which was something that CNN did not want to get linked with.
