On October 3, 2016, Gregg made the announcement that he would be hosting a new daily afternoon show on the Opie Radio channel from three in the afternoon to six in the evening. Gregg was not pleased with the change since he believed that he had been “blindsided” by Norton’s choice to host the morning program on the channel, which was called Jim Norton & Sam Roberts with Sam Roberts.
He said that he had not been made aware of the news until the previous week, which is the reason he felt “so upset.” On October 4, 2016, the first episode of the Opie Radio Show was broadcast. In the course of the first episode, Hughes finally gave Cumia an on-air interview after an absence of more than two years.
According to a report that was published online on July 6, 2017, Gregg was terminated from his position at SiriusXM for reasons that were not disclosed. It had been almost exactly three years to the day that Cumia had been fired. Later in the day, Hughes sent out the following tweet: “As I tweet this, I can say with complete candor that I am completely unaware of what is now taking place.
More when I am aware of it.” On July 7, Hughes posted a video to YouTube in which he confirmed that he had been fired from his job. In the video, he explained that since he was not permitted to say “Your mom’s box,” a phrase from Opie and Anthony, on the air during his final shift, he had written the phrase in the sand on the beach where he had filmed the video. As a result of an alleged incident in which Hughes filmed a coworker using the restroom, Hughes was let go from his position.

In 2008, Gregg and his wife filed a lawsuit against the columnist for Steppin’ Out magazine, Chaunce Hayden, seeking $10 million in damages. On March 16, 2010, the judge decided that the first news item was worthy of being reported, despite the fact that all parties involved had acknowledged that there was no actual sex tape.
