Garrett Heyd is an American Anchor and Reporter working for KGAN in the capacity of a Meteorologist. She joined the station in June 2022 and was previously working at WHBF-TV in Rock Island, Illinois before joining the station.

Heyd serves as a meteorologist at KGAN. In June 2022, he joined the Weather First Team. He had been the Weekend Meteorologist at WHBF in the Quad Cities for two years before that. Garrett did field work at KGAN in 2017 and WOI-DT in Des Moines in 2018 and 2019.
Heyd is from Cedar Rapids and graduated from Linn-Mar High School in 2016. Heyd has always been interested in the weather. As a child, he loved learning about science in general, but clouds were especially interesting to him. His dream job as a meteorologist was clear to him when he was in school.
That’s when Heyd went after his dream, and in 2020, he graduated from Iowa State University with a Bachelor of Science in Meteorology. Heyd’s interest in becoming a television meteorologist began when he was on LMTV, a school-run news show where he did weathercasts twice a week. Heyd learned more about the broadcasting field at Iowa State, where he worked on “Cy’s Eyes on the Skies,” the school weather show.
Heyd did things outside of school with the American Meteorological Society Local Chapter and his club, the Acacia club. He started working as a photographer and visuals editor for the student-run newspaper “Iowa State Daily” at Iowa State University during his final year. Getting to take pictures for the Iowa State Daily on the field of Jack Trice Stadium during Cyclone football games was his favorite thing about being a Cyclone.
Heyd loves taking pictures when he’s not working. He likes to shoot many different types of things, from animals to the stars. He also likes the physical act of shooting film and developing it (in the way that photography was done years ago!). Heyd really loves hockey and still tries to play when he can, even though he also takes pictures. Heyd also likes to play disc golf. When the weather is nice, he likes to play a few games.
