There is just one meteorologist in Central Florida that can declare that they were born and raised in their previous community and have a strong commitment to working there. Burris, a meteorologist working for WESH 2 First Alert, is thrilled to provide his friends, family, and the people of Winter Park with a forecast of the weather.
While he was still a student at Lake Howell High School, Eric began his career in weather forecasting at another television station in the Orlando area. Because of his insatiable appetite for meteorology, the Seminole County Public Schools created a temporary employment program that would allow him to get credit in the subject.
Following his graduation from secondary school, Eric contributed to coverage of the storms Charley, Frances, Jeanne, and Wilma. This not only provided him with top-notch insight, but it also prepared him for the transition from working behind the camera to working in front of it.
Although Eric was hired away by WESH 2’s sister station, WPBF-TV in West Palm Beach in 2006, he didn’t stay there for very long because he was recruited back. In 2007, Eric assisted WESH in covering the horrific tornadoes that occurred on Groundhog Day. Following this, he began filling in at the end of the week at WESH and eventually became a full-time member of the WESH climate group.
The climate is the primary responsibility that has been placed in his hands, and those working in the press affectionately refer to him as a “climate nitwit.”
When Eric is not on the air, he is working behind the scenes to support the other 26 climate departments at Hearst Television. In this role, he is responsible for creating some of the most attractive, clean, and straightforward designs in the country.
