Cook is a co-anchor for the 5 o’clock newscast on CBS News Bay Area’s KPIX 5 and a night-side correspondent for the station. When she was a senior in high school, she first started developing an interest in journalism. She was captivated by Tom Brokaw’s fantastic anecdotes from his long and illustrious career, and she was moved to action by the deep concern he had for the audience. Brokaw asked her whether she had ever considered a career in journalism.

Elizabeth had been working for KPIX 5 for a little over a month when she was assaulted with her cameraman while reporting on a chaotic Occupy march in San Francisco’s Mission District. She had just joined the station as the co-anchor of the 5 p.m. newscast and the night-side reporter. The group made it to safety with only a few minutes left on the clock and filed their report for the eleven o’clock news. After completing her show at five o’clock each day for the next couple of years, Cook would immediately hop into a live truck to report breaking stories from various locations in the Bay Area for the eleven o’clock newscast.

During her time at KPIX 5, Elizabeth covered the Occupy movement as well as the illicit sale and transport of firearms in Oakland in great detail. She also documented Bay Area ties to some of the most important news items from around the world. She told the story of a guy from the Bay Area who helped Syrian refugees flee their nation, of a California company that is creating a serum to treat the Ebola virus, and of a revolutionary medical device that is unraveling some of the secrets of Parkinson’s disease.

Elizabeth also brought to light a contentious experiment conducted in Humboldt County, California, with the goal of protecting an endangered species of owl as well as the illicit transportation of horses from California to slaughterhouses in other states.She has an interest in bringing attention to some of the most interesting women in the Bay Area, such as Audrey Cooper, the first female Editor-in-Chief of the San Francisco Chronicle, and Hannah Gordon, General Counsel for the 49ers.

Elizabeth never passes up an opportunity to enjoy some fresh air and exercise in the great outdoors. She has anchored broadcasts from downtown Main Street following the 2014 Napa earthquake, on the turf at the home opener of Levi’s Stadium, at the scene of the tragic China Basin fire, and inside San Francisco’s Super Bowl City leading up to the big game’s 50th anniversary. She has also anchored shows from the scene of the devastating China Basin fire.

She holds her co-anchor, Ken Bastida, in extremely high regard. “He brings a breadth of experience to the anchor desk,” she says. “We really appreciate that.” “A significant portion of the newscast consists of feeding off of each other, particularly in the event that there is breaking news. It is helpful to be familiar with the vibe of your co-anchors and to be aware of where they are going.

In 2013, Elizabeth also worked alongside the seasoned journalist Ken Bastida to co-anchor the 11 p.m. edition of the station’s newscast. She holds Ken Bastida, the co-anchor, in extremely high regard. “He brings a breadth of experience to the anchor desk,” she says. “We really appreciate that.”

Elizabeth worked at NBC’s The Jane Pauley Show and completed an internship at ESPN during the time that she was earning her degree from the esteemed USC Annenberg School. After receiving her diploma, she moved to Palm Springs to begin her career as an on-air reporter.

Elizabeth worked as a producer, a reporter, and a multi-media journalist before she was promoted to her current position as the principal news anchor at KMIR-TV. During her time there, she reported on the aftermath of two of the deadliest fires in the history of California, visits by former President George W. Bush, and the passing of former President Gerald R. Ford.

When Elizabeth is not working as a news anchor, she enjoys playing chase with her son, who is three years old, starting on a never-ending search for the greatest coffee in the Bay Area, and touring San Francisco restaurants with her husband.
