Ed Drantch is an American anchor and reporter who has won many Emmy awards. He is currently employed by 7 Eyewitness News, WKBW-TV in Buffalo, New York, where he works as a morning anchor and an investigative reporter. Since 2014, he has been serving in a capacity as an employee at this station.
Jeff decided to further his education by enrolling in the State University of New York College in Oneonta, from which he ultimately graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Communications and Media Studies.

Ed came to 7 News from a competitor station located directly across town, News 4 WIVB-TV. Ed was assigned to write a piece on the state of racial harmony in the city of Buffalo during his time working at News 4 for a total of three years. Additionally, the New York State Associated Press has recognized him for the exceptional work he has done. In 2013, Drantch was given a special mention for Excellence in Individual Reporting, which was an accolade bestowed upon him.
Ed spent the previous three years of his life in Harrisonburg, Virginia, before moving to Buffalo in 2011. He was a member of the Emmy-award winning morning show “Daybreak” that aired on WHSV-TV. In addition to that, he was the producer and anchor of WHSV News 3 at Noon. Ed completed his internship at WABC-TV in New York City, which is the flagship station for ABC, during the summer months leading up to his final year of high school.
Before moving to Virginia, Ed worked in New York City as an online correspondent for FOX 5, WNYW, which is the flagship station for the FOX network. Prior to that, Ed was in Virginia. Ed developed a foundation for his vocation by working in online journalism for about a year. During this time, he gained experience with social media and other online technologies and learned how to use them to engage with people. In 2008, he took part in the final debate for the presidential election that was held at Hofstra University. Ed was receiving national attention because to the fact that he was not only reporting on the event for the website of the station, but he was also live-blogging for the full Fox Interactive Media platform.
Ed is also a member of the Board of Directors for GLYS WNY, which is an organization that works to make life better for LGBTQ+ children in our region. Additionally, he is the proprietor of his own company called Reel Talent, which provides training and guidance to aspiring journalists as well as working journalists in more localized markets.

Ed has won the New York State Regional Emmy award twice, once for his coverage of catastrophic tornadoes in Western New York in 2017 and again in 2020 for his coverage of race-related protests and the consequences of those protests. Ed’s efforts led to the exposure of a worker at the Erie County Department of Health who had been forging restaurant inspections. As a result, Ed was nominated for an Emmy award. In addition to this, he was nominated for an Emmy award for his coverage of the COVID-19 virus and how hospitals responded to it. At the height of the pandemic, he took the audience with him into the intensive care unit of a single hospital to demonstrate what the staff and patients were going through.
Ed was initially recognized by people from Western New York for his coverage of Nik Wallenda’s historic walk across Niagara Falls in the year 2012. As Wallenda prepared for this performance that defied death, he brought audiences in Wallenda’s hometown of Sarasota, Florida, an exclusive series of stories that he had collected along the way.
