Jones was inspired to pursue a career in journalism by Ethel Payne, a brave journalist who worked for the Chicago Defender and covered many significant historical events during her time there. Jones’s interest in journalism began when he was a child. When she joined the staff of her undergraduate newspaper and the campus television station at Illinois State University, she was given her first taste of the world of journalism.
Before Jones started working for Channel 9, she was a reporter in Decatur, Illinois; Memphis, Tennessee; Springfield, Tennessee; and Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; all of these cities are located in the state of Tennessee; her reporting in Philadelphia earned her nominations for Emmys. Her investigative work on the G.W. Bridge issue involving New Jersey Governor Chris Christie attracted the attention of people all throughout the country.
