Daniel was first established by Boulud in 1993 on Manhattan’s Upper East Side. In 1998, the restaurant was moved to its current location at Park Avenue and 65th Street, which is designed to evoke the Venetian Renaissance. The original Daniel was transformed into the Café Boulud when it reopened. After these establishments opened, he went on to open a restaurant that was less formal in the theater area of Manhattan in the year 2001, and he opened a second Café Boulud in Palm Beach, Florida, in the year 2003.

In January 2008, Daniel Boulud created Bar Boulud, a French bistro located directly across from New York City’s Lincoln Center. In the same year, he also established Boulud à Pékin in Beijing.
