Since 2009, Lane has served as the Chief Meteorologist for KOCO 5 First Alert Weather. In Oklahoma City, he is the only Chief Meteorologist with a degree in Atmospheric Sciences/Meteorology. He is also the sole Chief Meteorologist to possess the CBM seal of approval from The American Meteorological Society in Oklahoma City, the highest level certification from the nation’s preeminent broadcast meteorologists’ association.

WeatheRate, an independent scientific organization that evaluates the accuracy of weather forecasts across the country, has independently certified Damon and the KOCO 5 First Alert Weather family as providing the most accurate forecast in Oklahoma City.

Lane has also served as a guest meteorologist for ABC’s Good Morning America and is a frequent speaker at national weather conferences. In 2016, he appeared in the nationally televised ABC 20/20 primetime special “In An Instant” regarding the Moore, Oklahoma tornado outbreak of 2013.

In addition, he discussed his own experiences covering the 2013 tornado outbreak that struck his birthplace of Moore. The massive tornado struck his neighborhood, which he chronicled live on the air. Since then, Lane has been active in society’s recovery efforts. His tornado outbreak coverage was nominated for an Emmy Award.

Previously, Lane served as Chief Meteorologist at KTXS-TV in Abilene, Texas, predicting severe weather on the southern border of “Tornado Alley.” There, he was named “Abilene’s Favorite Meteorologist” for three consecutive years.

During his leisure time, Lane enjoys spending time outdoors. As an outdoor enthusiast, he appreciates hiking in the summer and skiing in the winter. His wife Melissa and daughters also share his passion for travel and the great outdoors. When he’s not hiking with his family, he enjoys firing up the grill at home and believes he creates the world’s best “jalapeno poppers.”
