Cornel West is a well-known name in the fields of philosophy, literature, social criticism, political activism, and public intellectualism in the United States. West, whose father was a Baptist pastor, focuses on the role of race, gender, and class in American culture as well as the mechanisms by which people behave and react to their “full conditionedness.” West is the son of a Baptist minister.
He is a democratic socialist and a democratic socialist, and he draws intellectual contributions from a wide variety of traditions, including Christianity, Marxism, neopragmatism, the black church, and transcendentalism.
