While he was stationed there, he kept a close eye on a number of breaking news items and was in the thick of the action. After a lone gunman terrorized a Sikh temple in Oak Creek, Cody was live on the scene, and he also covered a historic push to recall a sitting governor.
A number of severe weather occurrences also covered by him, the most notable of which being showing viewers the aftermath of a massive tornado that had completely flattened the town of Washington, Illinois. The Wisconsin Broadcasters Association honored Cody with several honors on multiple occasions.

His work as an anchor and reporter there uncovered a serious fault in the procedure that was used to dispose of sensitive medical records, and it led to the modification of that procedure. Cody was also instrumental in bringing an end to the search for the shooter who had killed the man’s wife on a college campus. He demonstrated to the audience the devastation that had been caused by an unprecedented tornado outbreak. Cody was also keeping up with the attempts to clean up the catastrophic oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico, which devastated the economy along the Gulf Coast.
