In September of 2015, Edwards became a member of the WHNT News 19 Weather Team. Christina had lived in Atlanta, Georgia, for a significant amount of time before moving to Huntsville, and during that time, she experienced a diverse range of extreme climatic conditions.
In all candor, Christina will never forget her very first encounter with thundersnow, which occurred during the “Blizzard of ’93,” also known as the “Tempest of the Century,” which dumped approximately 3 feet of snow in her region.
After fifteen years, Christina finally noticed an electric rainstorm moving south along Interstate 75 on a warm evening in March. Minutes later, the storm produced an EF-2 twister in the middle of Atlanta, which was only two miles away from where she resided.
Christina’s interest in science began at a young age, when she would observe the mists for signs of evidence of a changing climate and construct handcrafted “climate estimations” on banner sheets for loved ones to read.
Because of this drive, Christina attended the Georgia Institute of Technology and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Earth and Atmospheric Sciences. After finishing her education, Christina worked as a climate maker for WSB-TV in Atlanta and as an advanced meteorologist for The Weather Channel and weather.com. She also served as an advanced meteorologist for The Weather Channel.
As a member of the American Meteorological Society and a volunteer for the Boy Scouts of America’s Weather Merit Badge program, Christina is an active participant in the climate network.
When Christina isn’t keeping an eye on the clouds, one of her favorite things to do is watch high school football. Her favorite bands are the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets… and whoever is currently performing against the University of Georgia.
She walked the sousaphone in her secondary school just as school groups, and she is an individual from the co-ed walking band club called Kappa Psi. Christina is a walking band supporter no matter the school she attends.
