After the previous meteorologist, Karen Minton, retired, he became the new incumbent. In addition to that, Monahan is a part of the Channel 2 Action News at Noon team.

Brian couldn’t wait to go back to the part of the country that has some of the most volatile and difficult-to-predict weather in the whole country, with conditions ranging from severe weather outbreaks to winter storms to droughts. This was after he had spent the majority of his career living in the Southeastern United States. Monahan has been an integral element of the coverage that Severe Weather Team 2 has provided for the most significant weather events that have occurred in north Georgia during the past few years.

As a result of his work for Channel 2 Action News, he has traveled all over the country to report on storms, many of which have permanently etched themselves into our memories. In 2015, Monahan reported on the unprecedented winter storms that hit the Boston area. These storms dumped several feet of snow over the course of a couple of weeks, paralyzing the city and causing ripple effects that reached all the way to the metro Atlanta area. He reported on the catastrophic tornado outbreak that wreaked havoc throughout southwest Georgia in the month of January in the year 2016. In October, Hurricane Matthews came within a hair’s breadth of making landfall as a significant hurricane along the coast of central Florida.

In 2017, Brian reported for a full week from Houston on the catastrophic flooding that occurred there as a result of the rainfall brought on by Hurricane Harvey. When he was reporting on Hurricane Florence in North Carolina in 2018, he once again witnessed the devastation that can be caused by a tropical storm that is unable to move. As a consequence of this, it was only logical for him to combine two of his interests and turn it into a career. Brian thinks of himself as one of the luckiest individuals alive since he is able to pursue a career in an area that has been a passion of his since childhood.

While Brian was still in school, he got his start in the television industry working at WYOU and WBRE in the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton area of Pennsylvania. After graduating from high school, he began his career at WINK in Fort Myers, Florida, where he worked as a weekday morning meteorologist for a period of five years. Subsequently, he worked at WSB’s sister station WFTV in Orlando for a period of two years as a weekend evening meteorologist. He was lucky enough to accomplish one of his career aspirations when he was in Orlando, and he was given the opportunity to fill in a few times on weekend versions of Good Morning America. This was a highlight of his time in Orlando.

While he was based in Orlando, he spent two years working as a weekday morning and noon meteorologist at KIRO, which is a sister station. In addition to being a weather enthusiast, Monahan is a huge sports fan, especially when it comes to college athletics. Brian enjoys the fact that he lives in a region where college football is the dominant sport and has attended a number of games “Between the Hedges” over the past several years.
