Brian Mclaren Biography
Brian McLaren is a prominent person in the emerging church movement, in addition to being a pastor, author, activist, and speaker in the United States. Being a significant player in post-evangelical thought, he is also connected with postmodern Christianity and progressive Christianity. He is known for his contributions to both branches of Christianity.
Brian is frequently regarded as one of the most important Christian leaders in the United States, and in 2005, Time magazine named him one of the 25 Most Influential Evangelicals in America. In addition to that, he established and served as the founding pastor of Cedar Ridge Community Church in Spencerville, Maryland, which he left in 2006 to devote his entire time to writing and public speaking.

He holds master’s degrees in both public health and international affairs, both of which he earned from Columbia University. He earned his undergraduate degree at the Catholic University of America in Washington. His mother is Eileen, and his father is James Ryan, both from South Amboy, New Jersey. His mother worked as a nurse for a pediatrician in Old Bridge, New Jersey until she retired.

Brian Mclaren Church
The Christian community that gathers at Cedar Ridge Community Church is welcoming to all and strives to make the world a better place for all people. They do this by spreading the love of God to as many people as possible.
It is a church in the Baltimore-Washington area that does not adhere to any one religious sect and was established in 1986 by Brian. The congregation today consists of several hundred persons, the majority of whom were not members of any other church in the past but have since joined.

Brian Mclaren Theology
Brian left the academic world in 1986 to become the founding pastor of Cedar Ridge Community Church, a nondenominational church located in the Baltimore-Washington area. Before to that, he had spent several years working in higher education, teaching English and providing consulting services.
The membership of Cedar Ridge Community Church has increased to several hundred persons, the majority of whom were formerly unchurched until they joined. The Carey Theological Seminary, located in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, presented Brian with an honorary Doctor of Divinity degree in the year 2004.
From the middle of the 1980s, he has been involved in a variety of activities, including networking, mentoring church planters and pastors, and contributing to the establishment of several new churches. Mclaren has supported his fellow pastors, notably former theologian, church planter, and author, Mike Hamel.
On his website, he authored the following: “There are a few people in my circle of friends who can honestly say that they have endured some of the most difficult years, decades, and lives possible. I really wish I could make things better in some way, but for the time being all I can do is listen to their narrative and allow it move me emotionally.”
Despite the fact that Mclaren was subjected to harsh criticism from a number of prominent Evangelicals, he continues to be a sought-after speaker for campus groups and retreats, in addition to being a frequent guest lecturer at seminaries and conferences on both a national and worldwide scale.
Public speaking engagements given by Mclaren cover a wide variety of subjects, including postmodernism, biblical studies, evangelism, apologetics, leadership, global mission, church growth, church planting, art and music, pastoral survival and burnout, and inter-religious dialogue, ecology, and social justice.
In addition to serving on the boards of directors for Sojourners and Orientacion Cristiana, he is a member of the international steering team and board of directors for Emergent Village, which is a fellowship of missional Christian leaders that is expanding and producing fruitful friendships.
Mclaren formerly held the position of board chair for International Teams, an innovative mission organization with 15 nationally registered members and a United States office based in Chicago. In addition, Mclaren has held positions on the boards of several other organizations, such as The Seattle School of Theology & Psychology and Off The Map.
