Ashley Henderson News 12 Now -WDEF
Ashley has been employed with News 12 Now-WDEF for well over a decade at this point. Before he started working for News 12 Now, he spent the previous six years at Falcon Cable TV in Dalton, Georgia, where he served as a videographer, director, producer, and editor. During that time, he was responsible for the production of thousands of advertisements and dozens of hour-long stories. In addition, Ashley worked in the Chattanooga area both as a freelancer and as an employee at another network affiliate. Since he was a teenager, he has been running a video production company out of his home on the side.
As a hobby, Ashley enjoys narrating tales that highlight individuals who have gone above and beyond to assist others, as well as tales that motivate individuals to bring about positive changes in both themselves and the communities in which they live. WDEF broadcasts a variety of shows that are syndicated, such as Judge Judy, The Insider, and The Andy Griffith Show. In its early years, the station focused on the community it served by broadcasting a variety of children’s shows, adult chat shows, and other programs. Among these was Point of View, one of the local public affairs programs in the United States that has been on the air the longest.
Since 1998, games played by the Tennessee Titans, who are based in Nashville, have been broadcast locally on WDEF (when the team was still called the Oilers). This is due to the fact that the Titans are affiliated with CBS, which broadcasts all National Football League games played in the afternoon and that feature a visiting team from the American Football Conference. The Titans compete in this conference. On April 4, 2009, WDEF-TV made history by becoming the first station in the Chattanooga market to begin carrying its local newscasts in high definition. The station did so beginning with the 11 o’clock newscast at station.
Some of the current news anchors include Bill Mitchell, who serves as a senior correspondent and special correspondent for the network; Dorothy Sherman, who works as both an anchor and a reporter; Emily Cassulo, who also serves in both capacities; she can be seen on weeknights on News 12 Now at 6 and Prime News at 7 with John Mercer; Kay Blevins, who also serves in both capacities; and Robyn Estabrook, who works as a multimedia journalist.
