Annie realized at a young age that she have a natural talent for writing and telling stories, and she began to develop these skills. It was because of her interest in gymnastics that she was able to attend the University of Iowa on a scholarship that covered all of her expenses. Anne pursued a degree in Journalism and Mass Communication as well as a degree in Sports Studies in the hopes of parlaying her genuine passion for athletics into a profession that does not involve competing in athletic events.
She was able to work for the university’s award-winning television station, DITV, in addition to her responsibilities as a student-athlete for the university. This is where she realized that she would be more successful working in journalism.
After she graduated from college, Annie worked for KIMT News 3, a CBS station in Mason City, Iowa, for a total of three years as a morning reporter and fill-in anchor.

She competed on vault in all of her meets in 2009, including the one at Iowa State where she tied for first on vault (9.825) and scored a career-high 9.850 on vault twice in 2009, the final time being against Kentucky (3/6) She also scored above a 9.8 on vault five times during that season.
During her time in high school, she achieved a personal best of 9.60 on the floor, 9.80 on the vault, and 36.975 in the all-around competition. She won first place on the floor at the 2004 Regionals (9.60), and she won back-to-back first-place finishes on the vault at the Nevada State Championships in 2007 and 2008.
