His family won a holiday decorating contest in Dayton, OH. Moreover, as part of the gift, one of the local TV stations showed the weather “live” from the McCrays’ front yard! In addition to this, Andy was hooked for good.

McCray was given the National Weather Association Seal of Approval in 2004. Jump ahead a few years. His seal is renewed every three years based on how much he continues to learn about meteorology, such as by going to workshops all over the country.

McCray is also proud of the fact that he led the charge for WHBF-TV to become one of the first TV stations in the country to be certified as StormReady by the National Weather Service. Because of this, the station was one of the first 10 in the country to get this award in the spring of 2012!

McCray likes talking about the weather and is always ready to let you know when the next storm or snow will happen. Moreover, if you see him out and about, feel free to tell him about your weather stories. He taught Meteorology I for 5 years at Black Hawk College in Moline. McCray also loves sports and always cheers for the Ohio State Buckeyes. He likes to play golf and walk or run around the neighborhood.
