Claibon currently serves as a Meteorologist at KING5 News where he joined the station in October 2020. Claibon’s early years were spent in Minneapolis, Minnesota. It was there, in the hard, snowy winters, that he developed an interest in weather. He became even more interested in the weather after moving to Montgomery, Alabama, where tropical storms and strong storms were more common. Because of this interest, Claibon went to Florida State University and got a degree in meteorology, which he finished in 2011.
Claibon’s first job in TV was as Chief Meteorologist at WBKB in Alpena, Michigan. The Michigan Association of Broadcasters gave him an award for Best Weathercast there. While he was there, Claibon predicted a lot of cold weather, which made him happy. In particular, Clabon remembers writing about the hard winter of 2013–2014, when Lake Huron almost froze over, and February 2015, which was Alpena’s coldest month ever.
Claibon went to WCIA in Champaign, Illinois, for his second stop. There, he learned a lot about how to report bad weather, like the 29 confirmed tornadoes that happened on December 1, 2018, which was the worst December tornado event in Illinois history. One of the most amazing things about that day was that none of the storms killed anyone.
It makes Claibon very happy to be moving to the Pacific Northwest. He is ready for everything it has to offer.
